The future of mindset in education is emerging.
This future is not emerging in an AI-powered app, a peer-reviewed paper, or a K-12 keynote. It’s emerging in the living, breathing relationships that exist between learners, teachers, and the wider world. It’s emerging every time a learner or teacher shifts their mindset, and lives into new ways of seeing, thinking, and acting.
What does this future of mindset, and this shift in how we see, think, and act, have to do with education? Very simply, everything. It influences what we notice, what we value, how we make sense of experience, and what we believe can be learned. We begin asking new questions, discovering new possibilities, and responding to complexity with greater wisdom and creativity. Every time a mindset shifts, it plants a seed for a future possibility that didn’t exist before.
At the same time, working with mindsets takes skill and care. Now is the time to strengthen the mindset capabilities of your learning community, so you can grow through complexity with greater confidence, and can develop new ways of teaching and learning that are never set, but always evolving.
How can your school strengthen its mindset skills?
Has your school identified mindset as an important capability for professional learning, but you’re unsure which approach to take? Should you focus on a growth mindset, an inquiry mindset, stage development, or another framework?
Why not try a next-generation approach that is based on a field-wide study of the mindset sciences, and draws on the strengths of these traditions and more? To help you get started, we’ve created a range of free mindset activities for you to explore.
If you want to go further, why not consider learning the practice of mindset literacy. Very simply, mindset literacy is the ability to read and articulateyour own mindset, in your own words. In doing so, it’s a new approach to mindset that centres learner and teacher voice. To help you take your first steps with mindset literacy, try the Mindset Literacy Worksheet.

If you’re also looking to move beyond quizzes that assess mindset through the lens of a single framework, the Mindset Maturity Quiz offers a broader alternative. It helps people examine how diverse and holistic their approach to mindset is. Its free, PDF based (no data entry required), and takes 5 minutes.

Collaboration opportunities
Hi, I’m Ash Buchanan. I spent a decade exploring how the collective knowledge of the mindset sciences can be applied in real-world settings. I now help learning communities bring the future of mindset to life in everything they do. I offer a range of teacher trainings, leadership programs, learning partnerships, and project support.
My dream is to support all learners and teachers with knowing their own mindset directly, alongside the ones shaping their communities, so they can make small shifts that create real impacts in their lives and the world.
